Summary

In hardcover for the first time, this tenth-anniversary edition of the game-changing #1 New York Times bestseller features a new foreword and brand-new tools to make the work your own。

For over a decade, Bren Brown has found a special place in our hearts as a gifted mapmaker and a fellow traveler。 She is both a social scientist and a kitchen-table friend whom you can always count on to tell the truth, make you laugh, and, on occasion, cry with you。 And what's now become a movement all started with The Gifts of Imperfection, which has sold more than two million copies in thirty-five different languages across the globe。

What transforms this book from words on a page to effective daily practices are the ten guideposts to wholehearted living。 The guideposts not only help us understand the practices that will allow us to change our lives and families, they also walk us through the unattainable and sabotaging expectations that get in the way。

Bren writes, "This book is an invitation to join a wholehearted revolution。 A small, quiet, grassroots movement that starts with each of us saying, 'My story matters because I matter。' Revolution might sound a little dramatic, but in this world, choosing authenticity and worthiness is an absolute act of resistance。"

I want to listen to it on audiobook again。 It was a good quick read, I feel like anyone could benefit from。 In general summary, the book is about embracing the moment, not worrying about others, or the appearance of perfection。 Just be your best self。

I wish I had read this 10 years ago。 I want to try and read it every few years。

DNF @ 33%Mmmm, not for me。 Written in 2010, advice is a bit outdated。 Stopped when a section described Gavin Newsom (amongst others) as a “thought-leader”。 LOL! Sorry, hard for me to take someone seriously that can include that with a straight face。

this book was like a restart button for me。 I know it largely applies to white women, but I'm a white woman。 this book was like a restart button for me。 I know it largely applies to white women, but I'm a white woman。 。。。more

I appreciate Brene Brown and listen to her podcasts。 I found this book to be so helpful! I give it 5 stars because the content is accessible and her writing style is fluid and easy to follow。 The ideas in this book are very helpful and I am working towards improving all areas within my guideposts。 I would recommend this book to anyone who is craving a framework for self improvement that has very tangible and actionable ideas。

The book opened my eyes on taking the courage to face the day to day challenges on the workplace and in my relationships。It's an amazing approach to reframe the concept of shame and use vulnerability on a daily basis。It gives us the courage to get exposed, to be seen in the arena of life and to be bold。 The book opened my eyes on taking the courage to face the day to day challenges on the workplace and in my relationships。It's an amazing approach to reframe the concept of shame and use vulnerability on a daily basis。It gives us the courage to get exposed, to be seen in the arena of life and to be bold。 。。。more

I found parts of the book pertinent to my life and interesting, but when I finished it I realized a disconnect between the title and the overall message。 If imperfections are supposed to be gifts, why is most of the book spent telling me things I should do differently to lead a wholehearted life?

Not great, not terrible。 It’s a very touchy-feely book and I guess I expected research。 The way it’s written is just not the way that appeals to me。 I like percents and averages and hard data and then some conclusions, but I get that not everything can be captured in this way。Having said that, I definitely understood what the author meant some of the time。 I think some of what she said there would be very useful in working on being less judgmental towards myself and others。

Alina Ayala

Great read! Embrace the person that you are including your imperfections。 Great tips and stories。 Breath of fresh air。

LOVED this。 I feel seen! I am not a super big self help book person and I know a lot of them have to fit your place in life and well this one did it for me。 Will read again。

Andres Barreda

A reader always values when the author demonstrates transparency and intimacy, like in this case Brene did。I liked the book and the overall message。 It sounds simple, but we need courage and fearlessness to act to our convictions and to own our story。Repetition is one of the oldest tricks to emphasize the point, and to a certain degree it works。 Unfortunately, Brene just did a little too much of it。

Kari

I’ll never really finish this book
